As the annual “Spring Festival Gala” of the technology industry, technology companies from all over the world will “flex their muscles” at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to showcase the most innovative technology trends and equipment.
Since 1967, the world’s largest and most influential technology and electronics show has launched many new and unique products such as VHS recorders, DVD players, 3D printers and wireless or curtain-roller TVs.
On January 9, CES 2024 kicked off in Las Vegas, USA. The exhibition received more than 4,000 exhibitors and approximately 130,000 visitors. Kinsey Fabrizio, senior vice president of CES, said that the booth area of this exhibition is equivalent to 43 football fields, and companies gather here to communicate and display new inventions. Areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital health, smart homes and sustainable technologies are all attracting attention.
Artificial intelligence becomes a hot topic
AI technology has become increasingly popular with the emergence of programs such as ChatGPT and Bard, voice assistants, platforms such as Netflix, and smart home appliances. According to a research report released by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which hosts CES, 27% of Americans believe that AI technology has had a significant impact on their daily lives. The study also found that while many people believe that AI technology represents “innovation, futurism and intelligence,” few associate it with “trust and security.” The report stated that consumers unanimously believe that AI regulation is necessary. A number of technology companies discussed this issue at CES and how AI technology can bring revolutionary changes to different industries.
Last October, CTA Policy Program Manager Kelsey Kelly noted in an article that the agriculture, accessible design, healthcare, and semiconductor industries are all using AI to help solve efficiency issues and social challenges.
Global technology media ZDnet reported that at this year’s CES, any products containing algorithms, machine learning or any form of automation will be marketed as AI products. How to see real AI innovation from the noisy noise of AI marketing will test every visitor who comes to the exhibition.
This year, CES also revealed the actual and potential uses of generative AI and showcased different devices equipped with AI technology: from TVs, speakers and headphones to cameras, cars and robots.
Digital health grows in popularity
The United Nations estimates that by 2050, the number of people aged 100 and over will reach 3.7 million. As the population ages and the desire to improve the quality of life becomes stronger, highly personalized digital medicine will become a general trend.
According to the CTA, healthcare is becoming more personal, portable and customizable. Several devices have attracted attention in the past year, including apps for analyzing bowel movements, sensors that monitor urine in real time, and credit card-sized devices that can record electrocardiograms. More innovative devices will be on display at CES this year, such as lipstick for diagnosing conditions and AI programs for detecting heart disease.
In addition, the exhibition reveals how the latest technology is transforming women’s physical and mental health through smart home innovations. Experts also shared their predictions for the future of healthcare.
Rich smart home applications
Today’s homes are becoming more and more intelligent. According to a study released by the CTA, approximately 19% of U.S. households already have smart appliances such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, or dishwashers. Smart home technology is already used in home lighting, window coverings, irrigation and entertainment systems. Televisions are no exception, with companies like Panasonic hoping to transform them into core devices for smart home management.
ZDnet reports that television is back at the center of innovation at this year’s show. The eye-catching 100-inch giant screen TV will be unveiled more at this year’s exhibition. A new generation of 100-inch TVs is about to hit the market, making them affordable and easy to transport.
Energy efficiency and automation are dominant trends in smart homes, with consumers looking for products that save time and money while improving safety and overall well-being. At this year’s CES, CTA analyzes how new technologies will improve residential security and how companies can win new customers.
Sustainable technologies to cope with climate change
Companies at CES will discuss how technological innovation can improve some of the planet’s most valuable resources, such as clean air and water. American company Genesis Systems hopes to produce fresh water from the air. Nubilab has created an AI-equipped food scanner to avoid food waste. Electric vehicle batteries and sustainability were among the priorities for some exhibitors.
According to the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, the climate emergency is the greatest economic, social and environmental threat facing the planet and humanity. The CTA said that as calls to combat climate change become louder, technology companies are looking for ways to provide solutions. Equipment to tackle this challenge will be on display at the show, such as electric skid steer loaders, autonomous robots capable of eliminating algae, and an alternative to starch-based plastics.
